Panic buying and fear of food shortage have fortunately proven to be unnecessary. Nevertheless, the attitude of Germans to the topic of food stocking up on provisions was altered through the experiences in spring: According to a recent trend study by the Zukunftsinstitut think tank, two thirds of the entire population say that it has become more important to them to always have fresh produce at home, the figure in the cities is even three quarters. Siemens is responding to this with an extended range of XXL refrigerators.
One of the highlights is the iQ500 side-by-side fridge freezer combination KA93GAIEP in stainless steel. The almost 1.80-meter-high new American-style appliance has a total capacity of 525 liters. 367 liters of this are in the refrigerating section, in which the multiAirFlow system ensures even cooling, right into the furthest recesses of the appliance. A further 168 liters are taken up by freezer compartment, equipped with noFrost. That means the XXL appliance offers enough space to cover the basic supply of fresh food over a longer period of time even in multi-person households.
From the home office to the home cocktail
Alongside storage space, owners of the KA93GAIEP also mainly gain quality of life. It’s simple, for example, to end the day with a sundowner on the couch or the balcony: The two-door giant features a special bar compartment with a flap through which you can reach straight into the drinks compartment. When lowered it becomes a mini shelf on which drinks can be poured, mixed and decorated. Drinks “on the rocks” are also ready in a jiffy, because right next to the bar compartment is an ice cube dispenser with a capacity of up to 1.8 kilograms. The amazingly spacious appliance serves ice cubes or crushed ice straight into the glass, and also refreshing ice cold water.
Clean lines and transparent design
Whether built into the kitchen or freestanding where the kitchen meets the living space, clean lines, brushed stainless steel and the long bar handles that are typical for Siemens look good in any setting. The sophisticated, functional design also continues in the bright and variable interior. Large transparent drawers, trays and glass shelves ensure transparency and a clear overview in the refrigerator and freezer compartments – supported by the brilliant LED lighting that illuminates both storage areas. No food item is overlooked, best-before dates are easy to read, and nothing stands in the way of dealing sustainably with food supplies.
“There’s more cooking at home, but going shopping is less enjoyable: That’s why we’re meeting a clearly recognizable need with the new XXL refrigerators,” as CEO of Siemens Home Appliances Germany Roland Hagenbucher underscores, because lifestyles have changed greatly due to coronavirus especially in the urban setting. In a recent study by the Zukunftsinstitut, 39% of city dwellers said that they had (re)discovered cooking since coronavirus, and almost as many (36%) cook more frequently than before. At the same time, 39% are less keen on going grocery shopping than they were before the lockdown.
